In the year 326 AD, Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, journeyed to Jerusalem with a holy mission: to uncover the sacred places connected to the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

After years of pagan desecration, St. Helena ordered the destruction of pagan temples built over Christian holy sites. Beneath the Temple of Venus, workers uncovered three crosses, the titulus inscription placed by Pontius Pilate, and the holy nails that pierced Our Lord.

But which cross belonged to Christ?

According to tradition, Patriarch Macarius of Jerusalem ordered that the crosses be placed upon a dead man being carried to burial. When the body touched the True Cross of Christ, the man was miraculously restored to life, revealing the authentic cross of the Savior.

With great joy, St. Helena and Patriarch Macarius lifted the Life-Creating Cross, showing it to the faithful gathered in Jerusalem.

This miraculous discovery led to the construction of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and forever strengthened Christian devotion to the Holy Cross.

The uncovering of the Precious Cross and Holy Nails remains one of the most important events in Christian history.
