The second week of Lent often brings a spiritual reality many Christians experience: the enthusiasm fades and the real struggle begins.

In this powerful reflection, we meditate on the Gospel image of the paralytic lowered through the roof before Jesus Christ. This moment reveals something profound about our spiritual life during Lent.

Lent is not meant to be comfortable.
It breaks through the roof of our routine, exposes our hearts, and brings us face to face with Christ.

Before healing the paralytic, Jesus says something surprising:

"Your sins are forgiven."

Why? Because the deepest paralysis in our lives is not physical — it is spiritual.

We often want God while still holding onto resentment, anger, and attachments that divide our hearts. Lent is the season where the Church gives us tools to confront these contradictions:

• Fasting
• Prayer
• Prostrations
• Long liturgical services

These are not spiritual performances.
They are meant to soften the hardened heart and remind us that without Christ we cannot stand.

Like the paralytic, we must learn the humility to allow ourselves to be carried — by the Church, by the prayers of the saints, and by the intercession of the Blessed Mother.

Christ's first word is forgiveness.
His second word is freedom.

"Rise and walk."

This is the true call of Lent.

Rise from indifference.
Rise from bitterness.
Rise from spiritual laziness.
Rise from despair.

We are not simply preparing to celebrate Easter —
we are called to begin living the Resurrection now.
