Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

The Nativity of the Theotokos marks the dawn of salvation and the beginning of a new era of grace. In the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, eternity and time meet as God prepares the woman who will bear Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh.

This Byzantine Catholic homily reflects upon the faith of St. Joachim and St. Anna. Though advanced in age and burdened by years of childlessness, they continued to trust in God. When their hope appeared to be fading, the Lord answered them according to His perfect timing. Anna conceived, Heaven rejoiced, and the first rays of redemption began to shine upon a world darkened by sin.

Mary’s life reveals the beauty of humility, obedience, and complete surrender to divine providence. Her “yes” to the Archangel Gabriel became an enduring proclamation of trust in God—even when the road ahead remained uncertain.

The birth of the Mother of God prepares the way for the birth of Christ. It reminds us that every life and every moment can serve a purpose within God’s great work of salvation. His timing is perfect, His love is unending, and His promise of redemption is unbreakable.

May the Theotokos help us become vessels of God’s love, carrying the light of Christ into the world.
