On this day, October 4th, we honor Saints Marcus and Martian, along with their holy companions, who were martyred during the brutal persecution under Diocletian (304–305 A.D.) in Egypt.

These faithful Christians endured unimaginable sufferings: scourging with iron hooks, disjointing of limbs, crucifixions, burnings, and executions by the sword and sea. Ancient historians such as Eusebius of Caesarea recorded these atrocities, having been an eyewitness to the horrors inflicted upon believers in Tanais.

Despite the cruelty of their persecutors, the martyrs stood firm in their faith, embracing the Cross of Christ with courage. Their steadfast witness continues to inspire Christians today to remain strong in trials, faithful in prayer, and unshakable in hope.

🙏 Let us ask the intercession of Saints Marcus, Martian, and their companions, that we may endure the hardships of our own lives with Christian fortitude.
