Here are ten encouraging Catholic stories from around the world for the week ending October 3, 2026.

This edition of Good News Last Week begins in Indonesia, where the Missionaries of the Holy Family celebrated 131 years of missionary service. We then travel to Thailand for a thriving basic ecclesial community and a Catholic hospital offering free heart screenings and CPR training.

Other stories include a new Catholic missionary presence in a Muslim-majority region of Ethiopia, a new diocese in Bangladesh prioritizing vulnerable indigenous communities, and Pope Leo XIV’s October prayer intention for those struggling with mental-health challenges.

At Lourdes, Pope Leo blessed a three-year-old girl with a rare genetic disorder and defended the dignity of the sick against euthanasia and assisted suicide. New figures also indicate a striking rise in young Catholic converts across France, the United States, Spain, Belgium, and Germany.

Bishop Robert Barron ordained 18 North American College seminarians as transitional deacons in St. Peter’s Basilica. Our number-one story features Pope Leo praying the Rosary with hundreds of children as part of a worldwide initiative offering approximately 50 million Hail Marys for peace.

The Catholic world has problems, but God continues to raise up missionaries, converts, clergy, families, and children devoted to Christ and His Blessed Mother.
