On October 11, the Church commemorates the Miracle of the Icon of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Beret, a wondrous event confirmed during the Seventh Ecumenical Council (787 AD).

This miracle occurred in Beret (modern-day Beirut, Phoenicia), where a group of Jews mocked an icon of Christ. As they pierced it with a spear, blood and water miraculously flowed from the image — just as it had from Christ’s side on the Cross. Witnessing this divine sign, many believed in Jesus Christ, repented, and were baptized.

This holy event was cited by Saint Peter of Nicomedia and Saint Athanasius, affirming the sacred truth of holy icons and their place in Orthodox Christian faith. Through this miracle, countless were healed, and the former synagogue was consecrated as a Church of Our Savior — glorifying Christ, who works miracles through His holy image.

🙏 “Glory to You, O Christ our God, who reveals Your power through Your holy icons!”
