Can Catholics pray directly to Jesus? After all he is our sole mediator. We often hear “I grew up Catholic and we were never taught to pray to Jesus.” You’ve heard it from ex-Catholics, from Protestant friends, maybe from a comedy stage: the nun said don’t bother Jesus. Former Protestant pastor Kenny Burchard answers the myth two ways. First, 18 Bible texts on how Christians pray: to the Father as Jesus taught (Matthew 6:9), to Jesus as Stephen prayed while dying (Acts 7:59) and as the whole Bible prays in its final words (Revelation 22:20, “Come, Lord Jesus”), and in the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26). Then 10 prayers to Jesus that Catholics pray constantly: the Jesus Prayer, the Kyrie, the Gloria, the Agnus Dei, “Lord, I am not worthy,” the Anima Christi, and more. Nearly every one is a sinner’s prayer. Who told YOU that Catholics don’t pray to Jesus?
