An actual exorcist responds to Netflix’s new “Catholic horror” series. Fr. Carlos Martins joins Joe McClane at 4:30 on The Body — eight episodes about Catholic schoolgirls, a drug-fueled initiation ritual, and (in Netflix’s own words) “potentially summoning the devil into their small town.” The show’s creator calls it “a raunchy teen psychodrama with a dash of Catholic horror.” Netflix promoted it on All Saints’ Day with the cast dressed as mock saints. Fr. Martins on what a scripted “summoning” does to the people who make it, the kids who imitate it, and the parents who have to answer for it.

At 4:14, Michael Haynes of The Catholic Herald on the two Germanys: Bishop Georg Bätzing, the former head of the German bishops, posts a statement on his diocesan website calling Pope Leo’s words on abuse “inadequate” and “highly problematic” — what Il Foglio’s Matteo Matzuzzi calls an “unprecedented attack” on the Pope. The same week, the new head of the German bishops, Bishop Heiner Wilmer, tells Europe’s bishops in Salzburg that Germany wants “full communion with the Holy Father” and “no specifically German path.” Which Germany is real?

Plus: Election Day headlines, Massachusetts Catholics force a 2028 vote on the state’s late-term abortion law, and the Gospel of the great dinner (Luke 14:15-24).

“Can a person really contact the Devil?” — the first line of Netflix’s trailer. We asked an exorcist.
