Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the joyous celebration of the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. Today, we set aside the Lenten purple to wear white, celebrating the moment the Word was made flesh and the splendor of the Father was revealed in the Son of Mary.
In today’s reverent liturgy, Father Carlos Suarez reflects on the "mysteries of the true faith" and the saving power of the Resurrection. We celebrate Jesus Christ as both true God and true man, conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary. This Mass is a beautiful invitation to confirm in our minds the profound truth of the Incarnation, asking for the grace to merit eternal joy through the same Spirit that overshadowed the Mother of God.
The Scriptures highlight the fulfillment of ancient prophecy and the radical obedience of the Virgin:
-The First Reading (Isaiah 7:10-14; 8:10): The Lord speaks to King Ahaz, offering a sign as deep as the netherworld or as high as the sky. When Ahaz refuses to ask, the Lord gives the definitive sign Himself: "The virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel," which means "God is with us".
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 40): A declaration of total surrender: "Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will".
-The Second Reading (Hebrews 10:4-10): The author reflects on how Christ, entering the world, offered His own body as the perfect sacrifice, doing away with the old to establish the new will of God.
-The Holy Gospel (Luke 1:26-38): The Angel Gabriel is sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to Joseph named Mary. The Angel greets her as "full of grace" and announces she will conceive a Son who will be called the Son of the Most High. Mary responds with her world-changing fiat: "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word".
May the saving power of this mystery lead us to the fullness of charity and the eternal joy of the heavenly kingdom.
