Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent as we open our hearts to the light and strength of God's presence.
In today’s reverent Homily, Father Dan O'Connell reflects on the "presence of light and strength" that constantly beckons us forth. Drawing from the solemn covenant established with Abraham and Jesus’ bold proclamation of His eternal nature, Father Dan explores the depth of God’s fidelity to His people. We are encouraged to recognize the "Word" that brings life and to remain mindful of the mercy that calls us back whenever we stray. This Mass is a powerful invitation to follow the way of the Lord, trusting that through the "saving gifts" of the Eucharist, we are made partakers of life eternal.
The Scriptures highlight the enduring nature of God's promises and the divinity of the Son:
-The First Reading (Genesis 17:3-9): God enters into a covenant with Abram, changing his name to Abraham and promising to make him the father of a host of nations. The Lord pledges an everlasting covenant to be God to Abraham and his descendants, giving them the land of Canaan as a permanent possession, provided they keep the covenant throughout the ages.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 105): A reminder of divine constancy: "The Lord remembers his covenant forever".
-The Holy Gospel (John 8:51-59): Jesus tells the Jews that whoever keeps His word will never see death. When they question His authority in relation to Abraham, Jesus reveals His pre-existence and divine identity, declaring: "Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM". Although they pick up stones to throw at Him, Jesus hides and leaves the temple area.
May the Sacrament with which He feeds us in this present age prepare us to give glory to the Lord by our lives and welcome us into His eternal kingdom.
