What is the Gospel, and what does eternal life mean? This Catholic homily explores the good news of Jesus Christ through the Church Fathers, focusing on theosis—participation in God’s life through grace—and restored communion with the Holy Trinity.

Drawing on his experience teaching evangelization in an evangelical setting, the preacher asks Catholics to consider how they would explain salvation to someone seeking Christ.

The homily examines the purpose of Christ’s saving work: bringing fallen humanity back into communion with God. His Incarnation, death, burial, and Resurrection accomplish our salvation and open the way to eternal life.

Beginning with humanity’s creation and separation from God, the sermon follows the story of divine love through the law, the prophets, and the Word made flesh. It then draws on St. Irenaeus, St. Augustine, and St. Athanasius to reflect on humanity’s calling to share in God’s life.

Theosis means sharing in divine life by grace, while remaining God’s creatures. This communion transforms us into living witnesses of Christ.

The closing invitation is practical: deepen your life in Christ, allow the Holy Spirit to shape your heart, and share the Gospel through your words, work, and relationships. Become a living letter of Christ that others can encounter.
