Byzantine Saints: Martyr Romulus and with Him Many Others (6 September)

In this video, we honor the memory of Saint Romulus the Martyr, a military commander under Emperor Trajan. During Trajan’s campaigns in the East (107 and 115 AD), thousands of Christians were discovered in the Roman army. Instead of valuing their loyalty, the emperor sent more than 11,000 Christian soldiers into exile in Armenia, where they were brutally executed.
Romulus, a confidant of Trajan, bravely rebuked the emperor’s impiety and declared himself a Christian. For his faith and courage, he was mercilessly beaten and beheaded, joining the ranks of the holy martyrs.
His steadfast witness reminds us that fidelity to Christ often comes with sacrifice, yet his example inspires us to remain strong in faith even in times of trial.
