In this talk, Father shares a personal story from his time in Windsor, Ontario, where he regularly gathered with a small men’s theological group in Chatham. This group included a Catholic priest, Protestant ministers, a convert from Dutch Reformed Protestantism, and seekers from different traditions. Our Friday night discussions often centered on faith, scripture, and the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

One common question was: “Why do Catholics need Mary? Isn’t Jesus enough?” Drawing from the wisdom of Venerable Fulton Sheen, I explain why even though we may think we don’t need her, Christ Himself chose to need her. Mary’s example of holiness, her role as the Mother of God, and her Dormition remind us of the eternal hope we share in Christ.

This reflection emphasizes Mary’s role as a mediator, a guide who always points us to her Son. As we celebrate the feast of the Dormition, let us reflect on how the Theotokos strengthens our relationship with Christ and inspires us to live a life fully united to Him.
