If someone asks you, “Are you saved?”, how do you respond? In this Catholic homily, we explore why salvation isn’t a one-time event but a lifelong relationship of healing and transformation in Jesus Christ. Drawing on today’s Gospel—where Christ restores the demoniacs living among the tombs (cf. Mt 8:28–34)—and the witness of the Fathers of the First Six Ecumenical Councils, we see that getting Jesus right (fully God and fully man) is essential to getting salvation right.

Salvation begins in Baptism, is nourished through the sacraments (especially Confession and Holy Communion), and deepens through daily repentance, prayer, and love. It’s not a checkbox—it’s communion with the living God who makes us whole. As a hospital chaplain shares, when someone asks “Are you saved?”, a deeply Catholic answer is: “By the mercy of God, I am being saved—following Jesus in His Church, through prayer, confession, Holy Communion, and daily repentance.”
