St Teresa Margaret Redi of the Sacred Heart is one of the youngest saints canonized by the Catholic Church. A Carmelite nun who lived only 23 years, she spent her short life hidden in prayer, charity, and deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Born Anna Maria Redi in 1747 in Arezzo, Italy, she was educated in Florence by the nuns of Santa Apollonia. From an early age she showed remarkable obedience, modesty, diligence, and a profound spirit of prayer. After receiving what seemed to be a supernatural call from St Teresa of Avila, she entered the Carmelite convent of St Teresa in Florence in 1765.

Though her life in the cloister was hidden from the world, her sisters testified to her extraordinary fidelity, charity, and devotion. She embraced prayer, penance, and poverty with heroic generosity and served as a nurse for the sick sisters despite her own fragile health.

St Teresa Margaret died at only 23 years old. After her death, her body remained incorrupt and exposed for fifteen days without any sign of decay. Her holiness quickly became known, and she has been venerated especially in Florence, where many miracles have been attributed to her intercession.

Her life is a powerful reminder that sanctity does not require a long life or great public works—only perfect love of God.
