March is dedicated to St. Joseph, the glorious foster father of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the most pure spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In this meditation we reflect on a beautiful title given to him by Holy Church: the first confessor of the New Law.

But what does it mean to be a confessor?

In the language of the Church, a confessor is not simply someone who hears confessions. Rather, it is someone who confesses Jesus Christ through faith, obedience, and heroic virtue.

St. Joseph lived this confession perfectly.

He believed every truth revealed by God, practiced the Gospel with heroic fidelity, and imitated Jesus Christ more perfectly than any saint except the Blessed Virgin Mary.

This meditation challenges us to ask a serious question:

Do we truly confess Jesus Christ in our lives?

To confess Christ means:
• To believe the truths taught by the Church
• To live according to the Gospel
• To resist the world, the flesh, and the devil
• To publicly belong to Christ

The saints teach us that we cannot reach heaven unless we imitate them in some measure. If we do not advance in virtue, we fall back.

May St. Joseph obtain for us the courage to confess Jesus Christ boldly so that Christ may confess us before His Father on the day of judgment.

"Whoever shall confess me before men, I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven." — Matthew 10:32
