What does God ultimately desire from you? The account of the rich young ruler reveals that God seeks more than outward obedience, religious knowledge, or impressive works—He desires your heart, your will, and your love.

The young man asks Jesus Christ what he must do to inherit eternal life. After affirming the commandments, Our Lord tells him: “If you desire to be perfect, sell everything you own, give to the poor, take up your cross, and follow Me.” Unable to surrender what possessed his heart, the young man walks away sorrowful.

The Greek word teleios, commonly translated as “perfect,” also conveys completion, fulfillment, and the end for which something was created. Christ calls us to become what God created us to be: people whose wills have been liberated by grace to worship, love, and glorify Him.

Salvation is not merely escaping hell. It is deliverance, freedom, and the fulfillment of our God-given purpose. What is impossible through human strength becomes possible through divine grace—but we must be willing to let God work within us.

Examine your desires. What occupies your thoughts? What motivates your decisions? What are you unwilling to surrender? Our will reveals who truly holds first place in our lives.

God does not judge according to wealth, status, opportunities, or appearances. He penetrates every exterior disguise and judges the heart. Give Christ your whole will, and everything else will follow.
