In this episode of The Lives of the Saints by Father Albin Butler, we reflect on the holy life of St. Melo, also known as Melenas, the first Bishop of Rouen in Normandy. Born in Great Britain, St. Melo’s zeal for the Gospel led him to a life of deep faith, evangelization, and spiritual leadership.

Consecrated as the first bishop of Rouen, St. Melo guided his flock for forty years during the early Christian era. His preaching brought the light of the Gospel to those living in darkness, awakening countless souls to divine truth and heavenly love.

St. Melo died peacefully around the beginning of the fourth century, leaving behind a powerful example of holiness and missionary devotion. His successor attended the Council of Arles in 314, and his relics were later moved to Pontoise in 880 for safekeeping during the Norman invasions.

Let us remember and honor the faith, courage, and devotion of St. Melo, whose example calls us to renew our own love for Christ and the Church.
