Discover the inspiring life of Saint Rusticus of Narbonne, a courageous bishop from southern Gaul who defended the Catholic faith during a time of heresy and turmoil. This episode from The Lives of the Saints by Father Alban Butler tells the story of a man of faith, humility, and perseverance amidst great trials.

Born to a holy family — his father, Boso, and his uncle, Aridor, both bishops — St. Rusticus was deeply influenced by the writings of St. Jerome and served the Church with distinction during the rise of Arianism. As Bishop of Narbonne from 427 A.D., he faced division, heresy, and persecution but remained steadfast in truth. He corresponded with Pope St. Leo the Great, who encouraged him to continue his pastoral mission despite adversity.

St. Rusticus also built a cathedral in Narbonne, where inscriptions in his honor still survive — tangible reminders of his devotion to Christ and the Church. His legacy stands as an example of leadership, prayer, and courage in defending the faith.

🙏 “Orate pro me, Ruso vestro – Pray for me, your Rusticus.”
