In 427 AD, St. Augustine debated the Arian bishop Maximinus over a simple question: does the Son obey the Father as God, or only as man? Over a thousand years later St. Robert Bellarmine accused the Lutherans of reviving that exact Arian error in the Book of Concord, and rather than deny the charge, Lutheran theologians embraced it, called it their greatest consolation, and called Bellarmine a Nestorian for rejecting it. This video walks through the full exchange, including Bellarmine's four arguments, the Lutheran replies in the Vera et Solida Refutatio, the later defenses from Junius and Gretser's responses, and the soteriological assumption underneath the whole error.
