In today’s powerful homily for the Third Sunday of the Great Fast (Lent), we reflect on Christ’s words in the Gospel of Mark:

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

At the midpoint of the Lenten journey, the Church lifts up the Holy Cross as a sign of hope and strength. The Cross reminds us that our suffering is not meaningless. Through Christ, the Cross becomes the path to resurrection.

Many Christians today face the temptation to hide their faith—to hesitate when asked if they believe, to rush through the sign of the cross in public, or to remain silent about Christ. But the Gospel warns us: whoever is ashamed of Christ will face the same response when He comes in glory.

In this homily we reflect on:
• Why Catholics should never be ashamed of the Cross
• What it truly means to take up your cross
• How suffering can become a place of grace
• Why the Church presents the Cross at the midpoint of Lent
• How Christ walks with us in every burden we carry

The Cross is not defeat.
The Cross is victory.
The Cross leads to Pascha — the Resurrection.
