The Samaritan Woman & the Infinite Mercy of Christ | Friday of the 3rd Week of Lent

The Gospel of the Samaritan Woman at the Well reveals one of the most powerful images of God’s mercy toward sinners.
Wearied from His journey, Our Lord sits beside Jacob’s well — not by accident, but by divine design. There He awaits a soul lost in sin. Through patience, tenderness, and truth, Christ converts the Samaritan woman and reveals the heart of the Gospel: God tirelessly seeks the sinner and rejoices when he finds him.
In this Lenten reflection for the Friday of the Third Week of Lent, we contemplate two consoling truths of the Christian faith:
• Christ spares no effort in seeking the lost
• Heaven rejoices at the conversion of a single soul
The saints teach that the entire life of Jesus Christ was a course of patience and suffering for our salvation. From Bethlehem to Calvary, the Son of God endured infinite labor to redeem man.
As the prophet says:
“I desire not the death of the sinner, but that he be converted and live.”
During this holy season of Lent, this meditation calls us to repentance, humility, and confidence in the boundless mercy of God.
Even the greatest sinner can hope — for Christ Himself seeks us.
