Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit: What Jesus Really Means

Published 9 hours ago

What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? Does repeatedly falling into the same sin mean you have rejected God’s mercy?

Drawing on St. Augustine, this Catholic homily explains Christ’s warning about the unforgivable sin and the danger of impenitence—a refusal to repent. It also offers encouragement for those sincerely struggling with habitual sins: falling while seeking God’s forgiveness is different from abandoning repentance.

Discover why confession matters, how excuses can gradually harden our hearts, and why we should keep returning to Christ even when progress feels slow. With encouragement from St. Paul and the example of St. Paul the Confessor, we are reminded that God gives us grace to persevere.

If you have been putting off confession, let this be an encouragement to return. Keep asking for mercy. Keep getting back up.
