Fr. Chad Ripperger explains the virtue of gratitude through St. Thomas Aquinas and the example of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Gratitude involves more than a routine “thank you.” It requires recognizing the good someone has done for us and responding appropriately—with appreciation, honor, prayer, and good works.

Even amid suffering, daily frustrations, and turmoil in the Church and society, God continues to sustain us and offer His grace. Fr. Ripperger encourages us to recognize these gifts without allowing hardship to dominate our perspective.

Reflecting on the Blessed Virgin Mary’s sorrows, he shows how gratitude can coexist with profound grief and steadfast virtue. Because gratitude belongs to justice, giving thanks is also a duty toward God and those who benefit us.
