The Sin of Impurity Makes Hell Begin on Earth | Wednesday of the 1st Week of Lent

On this Wednesday of the First Week of Lent, we reflect on Our Lord’s warning about the unclean spirit who wanders through dry places seeking rest and finds none.
The Fathers of the Church teach that this unclean spirit represents impurity — a sin that does not merely offend God, but transforms the soul into a living image of hell itself.
This powerful Lenten sermon explains the four torments that impurity brings upon a man:
• Darkness of mind
• Disorder and confusion
• Cruel slavery and bondage
• The devouring worm of conscience
Impurity blinds a man to himself, to God, and even to his own sin. It reduces reason to instinct. It disorders the mind, ruins families, destroys fortunes, and enslaves the heart. Worse still, it can lead a man into practical atheism — preferring to deny God rather than abandon sin.
This is not merely moral instruction — it is a call to repentance during Lent.
If hell is darkness, disorder, slavery, and remorse — then the impure man begins to suffer hell even before death.
Lent is the season to break the chains.
Repent. Confess. Fast. Return to Christ.
“Their worm does not die.”
