On the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we hear the words of Sacred Scripture: “My son, give me thy heart.” Our Lady gave her heart entirely to God—and as our spiritual Mother, she asks us to entrust our hearts to her.

This sermon explores the extraordinary compassion of the Blessed Virgin, confidence in her maternal heart, and St. Thomas Aquinas’ teaching on the relationship between faith, hope, and confidence.

True devotion is more than intellectual knowledge. Through mental prayer and Lectio Divina, we learn to contemplate the Hearts of Jesus and Mary: how they respond to suffering, trials, fear, anxiety, and the storms of life.

By watching Christ calmly walk upon the stormy waters, we learn how to face our own storms with serenity and confidence. Prayer allows us to know His Heart so deeply that His dispositions gradually become our own.

Whatever anxiety, suffering, temptation, or uncertainty you are carrying, place it within the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

“My son, give me thy heart.”
