Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Friday of the Third Week of Lent as we reflect on the heart of the Gospel: the call to total love.
In today’s reverent Homily, Father Tim Kearney explores the profound unity between our love for God and our love for one another. Reflecting on the scribe’s question to Jesus, Father Kearney reminds us that true worship is not found in external "burnt offerings and sacrifices" alone, but in a heart that is completely surrendered to the Lord. We are encouraged to see that our Lenten practices are meant to draw us away from "unruly desires" and toward a life where God is our sole focus. This Mass is a powerful invitation to "return to the Lord" with a contrite spirit, trusting that He will heal our defection and love us freely.
The Scriptures highlight the beauty of repentance and the priority of charity:
-The First Reading (Hosea 14:2-10): The prophet Hosea exhorts Israel to "return to the Lord your God," bringing with them words of repentance rather than empty rituals. The Lord responds with a beautiful promise of restoration: "I will heal their defection, I will love them freely; for my wrath is turned away from them".
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 81): A call to fidelity: "I am the Lord your God: hear my voice".
-The Holy Gospel (Mark 12:28-34): A scribe asks Jesus which is the first of all the commandments. Jesus responds by citing the Shema: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength". He adds the second: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," declaring there is no commandment greater than these.
May the strength of the Lord be at work in us today, pervading our minds and bodies and bringing us to the fullness of redemption.
