Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Wednesday of the Third Week of Lent as we seek to grow deeper in love with our Lord and our neighbor.
In today’s insightful Homily, the celebrant explores the profound relationship between the Law of God and the person of Jesus Christ. He reminds us that the Law is not merely a rigid set of "dos and don'ts," but a divine instruction manual designed to lead us toward the "bullseye" of perfect, self-sacrificial love. Using the metaphor of archery, he reflects on how our failures to love help us "aim higher," conforming our lives to the Spirit of the Law revealed on the Cross. This Mass is a powerful invitation to move beyond legalism and to embrace a holistic faith where our duty to love others is the foundation of our moral life.
The Scriptures highlight the wisdom of God’s statutes and the authority of Christ:
-The First Reading (Deuteronomy 4:1, 5-9): Moses teaches the people the statutes and decrees commanded by the Lord, urging them to observe them carefully as evidence of their wisdom to the nations. He cautions the faithful not to let these things slip from their memory but to teach them to their children and grandchildren, recognizing how close the Lord is to those who call upon Him.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 147): A song of praise for God's Word: "Praise the Lord, Jerusalem".
-The Holy Gospel (Matthew 5:17-19): Jesus declares to His disciples that He has not come to abolish the Law or the prophets, but to fulfill them. He emphasizes the eternal validity of even the smallest part of the Law, teaching that whoever obeys and teaches the commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
May the heavenly banquet at which we are fed sanctify us and make us worthy of the promises from on high as we continue our Lenten journey.
