The discussion begins with Matthew 16, where Jesus says to Peter, “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.” Jesus then gives Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven and the authority to “bind and loose.” But what exactly does this mean?

Caitlin explores the significance of Peter being called the “rock,” as well as the meaning of the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. She also examines the connection between Matthew 16 and Isaiah 22, where the chief steward of the House of David is given the key to the kingdom and receives authority under the king.

The video then looks at Jesus’ words to Peter after the Resurrection, when Jesus tells him to “feed my sheep.” How does this command relate to Peter’s role, and how do Catholics understand it in relation to the Pope and the papacy?

Caitlin also explains the Catholic understanding of the Pope and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Is the Pope supposed to invent new doctrines and rules, or is his role to preserve, interpret, and hand on the teachings given by Jesus and the apostles?

The video uses the controversy surrounding contraception in the 1960s and Pope Paul VI’s Humanae Vitae as an example of how the Catholic Church understands this responsibility. Rather than changing Catholic teaching in response to changing cultural attitudes, the Pope reaffirmed the Church’s existing teaching on contraception.
