Glory to Jesus Christ!

Today we stand at the threshold of Great Lent, beginning with Cheesefare Sunday (Sunday of Expulsion) — the day we remember Adam and Eve being driven from Paradise.

This powerful icon of the Expulsion reveals a profound spiritual truth:

👉 Where God is, there is life.
👉 Where God is rejected, there is emptiness.

On one side of the icon, Paradise is full of greenery, animals, joy, and divine rest.
On the other side, the barren world into which Adam and Eve are expelled — a world without the fullness of God’s presence.

This is not just history.

It is our life.

We often try to recreate paradise through earthly treasures — distractions, entertainment, social pressures, unnecessary obligations, and endless noise. But these “treasures” complicate our lives and crowd out space for God.

Great Lent is not about adding more.
It is about removing what does not belong.

If we want to grow spiritually, something must be taken away.

In this sermon, we reflect on:
• Why spiritual practices feel like a chore
• How worldly distractions suppress the soul
• Why simplification is essential for salvation
• How to make real space for God this Lent
• What it means to store up treasure in Heaven
