Saint Theotis of Palestine was a great ascetic who lived in the Judean wilderness, in Wadi Melik. Alongside his spiritual companion, Saint Euthymius the Great (January 20th), he lived a life of prayer, fasting, and holy struggle. Their bond was so deep that they seemed as “one soul in two bodies.”

Together they discovered a cave that became a church and the heart of a growing lavra (monastic community). Saint Theotis was made the igumen (abbot) of this lavra, instructing monks and guiding souls with spiritual wisdom. He ministered tirelessly until his repose in 467, when Patriarch Anastasius of Jerusalem presided at his burial.

⚠️ Note: Do not confuse him with Saint Theotis of Sicily (commemorated January 4th).
