Pope Leo XIV has suggested that the Traditional Latin Mass lacks the "conscious and active participation" of the faithful—a claim the segment challenges with survey data. Among 446 Traditional Latin Mass attendees surveyed, only 2% viewed the Eucharist as merely symbolic, compared with 69% in a broader Pew survey of Catholics. The data also show significant differences in attitudes toward contraception, abortion, same-sex marriage, Mass attendance, confession, charitable giving, and family size.
The host argues that the statistics challenge the idea that the traditional Latin Mass produces less conscious engagement with the Catholic faith. Instead, the data indicate stronger adherence to traditional Catholic teaching and greater awareness of the Eucharist among traditional Latin Mass attendees. The real problem, the host contends, is a broader decline in Catholic belief and practice following the introduction of the new Mass, not a lack of participation in the old rite.
