On October 1st, the Church honors St. Pat (Paton), a zealous priest and martyr who came from Benevento, Italy, to preach the Gospel in Gaul around the same time as St. Dionysius of Paris. Known for his missionary zeal, St. Pat converted many in Belgic Gaul, especially in the region of Tours, before being crowned with martyrdom under the cruel governor Rusius Varus around 286 A.D., during the reign of Maximian Hercules.

His martyrdom was particularly brutal—his body was pierced with massive nails used in Roman torture. His relics were later discovered in the 7th century and enshrined at Seclin, near Lille, where he remains honored as the Apostle and Patron of that region.

The devotion to St. Pat endured through invasions, with his relics being preserved and venerated across northern France. Fulbert of Chartres even composed a hymn in his honor, testifying to his enduring legacy of faith.

Join us as we journey through the inspiring life, mission, and martyrdom of St. Pat, Apostle of Tournai, whose courage and witness continue to inspire the faithful today.
