Christ is born!

In this homily, we reflect on how each of the four Evangelists—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—begins the story of Jesus Christ from a different starting point, and what that teaches us about the true beginning of our own lives as Christians.

Matthew begins with genealogy, Luke with birth, John with eternity, and Mark with baptism. But where should we begin our story? This sermon argues that the true beginning of the Christian life is not merely our physical birth or our family history—but the moment we put on Christ in Holy Baptism.

Drawing on the preaching of St. John the Baptist, the danger of outward religion without inward conversion is addressed. True repentance is not about appearances, but about a transformed heart that bears fruit.

This message also includes a candid pastoral reflection on parish life, evangelism, and the sobering reality of a parish experiencing no baptisms in an entire year—and what that reveals about how we live our baptismal promises daily.

We are reminded that every Christian is called to prepare the way for the Lord, not only through worship and prayer, but most importantly through love that is visible, authentic, and transformative.
