In this homily, we reflect on the life of St. Theodosius the Cenobiarch, the founder of communal (cenobitic) monasticism, and how his wisdom applies not only to monks—but to every Christian household.
St. Theodosius gathered monks from different cultures and languages, allowing them to pray separately during the week, but always uniting on Sunday as one community. This powerful witness reminds us that our families are small monasteries, called to prayer, stability, routine, and especially coming together on the Lord’s Day.
Drawing on the insight of Fr. Ron Rolheiser, this reflection encourages families—especially busy parents—to reclaim Sunday as sacred time, a day for worship, meals, and Christian love.
