In this powerful homily for the 7th Sunday after Pentecost, we reflect on the Gospel of Matthew 9, where Christ heals the two blind men and the mute demoniac. These miracles reveal more than physical healing — they show us the necessity of faith, repentance, and initiative in approaching Jesus.

Just as the blind men persistently followed Christ and the demoniac was brought before Him, we too must take action — through Confession, the Divine Liturgy, prayer, fasting, and reception of Holy Communion — in order to encounter His transforming mercy.

Why did Jesus command the healed men to remain silent? What does this teach us about the true nature of the Messiah? And how does this connect to the life of St. Panteleimon the Great Martyr and Healer, commemorated on this day?

Christ did not come as a political ruler — He came to free us from the bondage of sin and open the gates of Heaven.
