On April 2, the Church commemorates the holy martyrs Amphianus and Edesius, two brothers who abandoned wealth, status, and pagan upbringing to follow Christ with unwavering courage.

Born into the family of a pagan governor in Lycia, the brothers were sent to study in Beirut. There, they encountered the truth of Christianity and became fervent followers of Christ. Renouncing their former life, they journeyed to Caesarea, where under the guidance of Saint Pamphilus, they devoted themselves to prayer and sacred study.

During the brutal persecutions of Emperor Maximian, all citizens were ordered to offer sacrifice to idols. Refusing to betray Christ, Amphianus boldly confronted the governor in the temple, calling him to repentance. For this, he was seized, tortured, and ultimately drowned in the sea—his body miraculously returned to shore.

His brother Edesius followed the same path of fearless witness. In Alexandria, he publicly denounced the cruelty of the authorities and was likewise tortured and drowned for his faith.

These holy brothers remind us that true courage comes from Christ—and that fidelity to Him is worth everything.
