Saint Honorata of Pavia (11 January): Butler's Lives of the Saints

St Onorata of Pavia, commemorated on January 11, is a lesser-known but deeply inspiring early Christian saint recorded in Father Alban Butler’s Lives of the Saints and the Roman Martyrology.
Born in the 5th century, St Onorata was the youngest sister of St Epiphanius, Bishop of Pavia, a great peacemaker and defender of the poor during the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Her sisters bore symbolic names—Eusebia, Luminosa, and Lenta—reflecting virtues of holiness and spiritual light.
After St Epiphanius returned from a mission to Emperor Anthemius in Rome, he consecrated Onorata to God, entrusting her to the care of Luminosa at the Monastery of St Vincent of Pavia, located outside the Palatine Gate.
In 476, the Gothic king Odoacer seized Pavia and gave the city over to pillage. Onorata and Luminosa were taken captive. Through the intercession of St Epiphanius, they were rescued along with many prisoners. Soon after, Luminosa died, and St Onorata spent the remainder of her life devoted to good works, prayer, and holiness.
She was buried in the Church of St Vincent in Pavia, and in the 9th century, when her relics were transferred, many miracles occurred. January 11 marks the anniversary of this translation, and her name appears in the Roman Martyrology, with a similar name also listed on April 17.
