The Holy Martyrs Paul and his sister Juliana courageously confessed Christ and suffered martyrdom in the Phoenician city of Tyre during the reign of Emperor Aurelian (270–275).

When the emperor visited the city, Paul made the Sign of the Cross, openly declaring his Christian faith. For this bold confession he was arrested and brutally tortured. Seeing her brother’s suffering, Juliana rebuked the emperor for his cruelty and she too was tortured for Christ.

Their bodies were torn with iron hooks and burned over red-hot grates, yet their faith remained unshaken. The courage of these saints inspired three soldiers — Quadratus, Acacius, and Straton — to believe in Christ, and they too were executed for their newfound faith.

Juliana was later threatened with defilement and tempted with marriage if she would renounce Christ, but she remained steadfast. God preserved her purity, striking blind those who attempted to harm her.

Finally, the emperor ordered that Paul and Juliana be beheaded. With joy they went to their martyrdom singing:

"For Thou hast saved us from those who afflicted us and hast shamed those who hated us." (Psalm 44:7)

Their witness reminds us that true Christian courage comes from faith in Christ, even in the face of persecution and death.
