You were made to become a saint. This All Saints Day sermon explores how holiness helps us become the people God created us to be—and why genuine happiness grows through loving Him.
The saints come from every age and state in life: children, parents, priests, religious, rulers, laborers, and repentant sinners. Their lives remind us that the call to holiness includes each of us.
Through the Beatitudes, the commandments, and the gifts and fruits of the Holy Ghost, the preacher offers practical questions for examining our spiritual growth. Are patience, kindness, peace, and joy becoming more evident in our lives?
The sermon also challenges the idea that sanctity means misery. The saints’ sacrifices flowed from love of God, and their example invites us to leave behind sins and habits that obscure our true identity as His children.
The closing reading, attributed in the sermon to St. Bede, celebrates the saints’ victories and contrasts the brief struggles of earthly life with the everlasting joy of heaven.
All you holy saints of God, pray for us.
