Byzantine Saints: Virgin Martyr Seraphima Serapia of Antioch (29 July)

Virgin Martyr St. Seraphima (Serapia) of Antioch is commemorated on July 29. Born in Antioch and living in Rome during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (117–138 AD), St. Seraphima became the spiritual guide of the noble Roman woman St. Sabina, converting her to the Christian faith.
When persecution broke out, Seraphima boldly confessed Jesus Christ before the Roman governor Virilus. Refusing to sacrifice to pagan gods, she endured threats, torture, and an attempted assault. Through the protection of an angel sent by God, her purity remained untouched. Even after witnessing this miracle, the governor hardened his heart, subjecting the saint to brutal torture before ultimately condemning her to death by beheading.
Her courageous witness reminds Christians that Christ never abandons those who remain faithful, even amid persecution. The steadfast faith of St. Seraphima continues to inspire believers to trust completely in God's providence and to courageously confess Christ before the world.
