St. Celine, Mother of St. Remigius (21 October): Butler's Lives of the Saints

Published 13 hours ago

In this episode, Father Alban shares the inspiring life of Saint Selena, the holy mother of Saint Remigius (St. Remy)—the great Bishop of Reims who baptized Clovis, King of the Franks. Like Saint Sylvia, mother of Pope Gregory the Great, Saint Selena reminds us that holiness can be found in the humble and devoted vocation of motherhood.

Saint Selena, wife of the nobleman Amelo, was foretold by the monk Montano that she would bear a son of great virtue. Though advanced in years, her faith was rewarded when Remigius was miraculously born, and the blind monk’s sight was restored through her child’s touch. This miraculous story symbolizes divine grace and the sanctity of family devotion.

Her son, Saint Remigius, became one of the most influential bishops of early Christian Gaul—known as the “Apostle of the Franks.”
Saint Selena’s legacy continues to shine as an example of faith, humility, and maternal holiness.
