The Holy Glorious Prophet Elijah (Elias) stands among the greatest prophets of the Old Testament. A fearless defender of the true God, Elijah confronted King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, exposed the false prophets of Baal, called down fire from heaven on Mount Carmel, multiplied food for the widow of Zarephath, raised her son from the dead, and was ultimately taken alive into heaven in a fiery chariot.

This traditional account follows the life of one of Scripture's most remarkable saints, whose zeal for God continues to inspire Christians today. Elijah appears again in the New Testament at the Transfiguration of Our Lord and, according to the tradition of the Church, will return before the Second Coming of Christ to preach repentance.
