Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent. We are especially pleased to welcome the "Christ Crew" students from Cardinal Spellman High School to our chapel today.
In today’s moving Homily, Father Paul Ring reflects on the captivating and charismatic presence of Jesus, whose words "strike the heart" and "overwhelm us". Drawing from the trials of the Prophet Jeremiah and the divisions in the Gospel crowd, Father Ring explores why Jesus is far beyond any prophet who came before Him. We are reminded that while the Pharisees were threatened and "entrenched in the letter of the law," we are called to be like Nicodemus—drawn by Christ's very personhood to seek a secret and deep relationship with Him. This Mass is a powerful invitation to allow the Lord’s presence to "take root" in us so that we may share His light with everyone we meet as we approach Holy Week.
The Scriptures highlight the vulnerability of God's messengers and the mystery of the Messiah:
-The First Reading (Jeremiah 11:18-20): The prophet Jeremiah describes himself as a "trusting lamb led to slaughter," unaware of the plots hatched against him by those wishing to "destroy the tree in its vigor". He entrusts his cause to the Lord, the "just judge" and "searcher of mind and heart".
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 7): A cry for protection: "O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge".
-The Holy Gospel (John 7:40-53): A division occurs in the crowd over Jesus’ identity—some see Him as the Prophet, others as the Christ. Even the temple guards are spellbound, reporting to the Pharisees: "Never before has anyone spoken like this man". Despite the Pharisees' rejection, Nicodemus stands up for justice, questioning if the law condemns a man before hearing him.
May these holy gifts purify us and render us fully pleasing to God as we continue our journey toward the joy of the Resurrection.

Theological & Liturgical Context
-Season: Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent.
-Gospel Focus: The Uniqueness of Christ; Jesus’ presence is so powerful that even those sent to arrest Him are unable to lay hands on Him, revealing that His authority is not derived from worldly status but from His personhood as the Lamb of God.
-Homily Key Message: We are called to "trust that the Lord's presence may abide in us"; Lent is our time to deepen this relationship through prayer and fasting, ensuring that when we reach the Culmination of the Paschal Feast, we do so with "joy of minds made pure".
