On the 11th Sunday after Pentecost, this Catholic sermon reflects on the vice of immodest speech. Drawing from Mark 7:33–35, we see how Christ loosed the tongue of the mute man—but many today would benefit if their tongues were bound from obscene or impure words.

🔥 Two key lessons:

Immodest speech harms others – it spreads impurity, scandalizes the innocent, and leads souls to sin.

Immodest speech harms the speaker – it corrupts the heart, fuels impurity, and puts one’s eternal salvation at risk.

Quoting St. Augustine, St. Bernard, and St. Paul, the homily warns that the tongue can be a fire set on fire by hell (James 3:6). Instead, we are called to guard our words, speak with purity, and use our tongues to praise God and edify others.
