During the Third Sunday of Lent, the Church places the Holy Cross before the faithful as a powerful reminder of where the Lenten journey leads: the Passion, the Cross, and ultimately the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In this homily, we reflect on Christ’s words in the Gospel of Mark:

“If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

Fasting is not merely about abstaining from food. True fasting leads us into spiritual battle. When we attempt to grow in virtue, we experience temptations, impulses, and struggles that test our faith and commitment to Christ.
