Stefan, a devout Muslim who converted to Catholicism at 16-17 after studying St. Augustine and concluding that the Church Fathers' faith was the true Catholic faith, was baptized in July 2024 despite knowing the serious risks of leaving Islam and the resulting strain on his family relationships. His conversion was driven by genuine theological conviction; issues with Islamic claims about Jesus, the historicity of the Gospels, and an overwhelming desire for the Eucharist—rather than secular disinterest, which made his family's reaction one of anger and confusion rather than dismissal as a mental breakdown. After briefly getting involved in hostile, low-tier debate circles and growing disillusioned, he joined Tavnet (the St. Nicholas Tavlic Network) right after baptism to do pastoral work helping fellow Muslim converts. He and the interviewer discuss the major obstacles converts face: being treated as perpetual outsiders within the Church, poor Catholic understanding of Islam, and, especially outside the West, a lack of Catholic outreach that leaves evangelical house churches as the only option, sometimes at great personal risk including prison or death. They also explore how converts diverge into two mindsets, one retaining ethnic and communal obligation to evangelize their own people and another that effectively trades religious conversion for Western secularization, with evangelicalism's stronger social media presence reinforcing a perception of Christianity as a morally lax, foreign ideology.
