St. Agapitus the Unmercenary Physician of the Kiev Caves is commemorated on June 1st. Born in Kiev during the 11th century, this holy monk became renowned for healing the sick through prayer, humility, and simple herbal remedies prepared with faith in God.

A disciple of St. Anthony of the Kiev Caves, St. Agapitus devoted his life to serving the suffering without accepting payment, earning him the title "Unmercenary Physician." Through God's grace, countless monastics and laypeople recovered from illness after receiving his care and prayers.

One of the most remarkable episodes from his life involves an accomplished Armenian physician who could diagnose illnesses and predict death. When St. Agapitus miraculously healed patients deemed beyond recovery, envy drove the physician to attempt poisoning the saint. Yet God protected His servant, and the poison had no effect.

St. Agapitus also healed Prince Vladimir Monomakh through a simple blessing and herbal remedy sent from the monastery. True to his humility, the saint refused gifts and hid himself from worldly praise.

Before his repose, the Armenian physician predicted that St. Agapitus would die within three days. However, the saint revealed that God had shown him he would live another three months. When the prophecy proved true, the physician embraced Orthodoxy and became a monk, recognizing the holiness of St. Agapitus.

This inspiring account reminds us that true healing comes from God and that humility, faith, and selfless service are powerful witnesses to the Gospel.
