Discover the inspiring life of St. Marcellinus of Embrun, an early Christian missionary and bishop whose zeal, miracles, and perseverance under persecution reveal the power of holiness in action.

According to The Lives of the Saints by Father Alban Butler, St. Marcellinus—an African priest—evangelized the region of Embrun alongside St. Vincent and St. Dominus. Establishing his mission from a humble oratory on a cliff, he later built a great church that became a center of conversion and miraculous healing.

A remarkable fountain in the baptistry was said to fill miraculously on Holy Saturday and Christmas, with waters known for extraordinary healing properties. His sanctity led him to become bishop, but like many saints of the early Church, he endured persecution—particularly from the Arians.

Forced into hiding in the mountains, St. Marcellinus continued to shepherd his flock secretly, returning at night to guide and strengthen the faithful. His life is a powerful witness to courage, humility, and unwavering devotion to Christ.
