Saint Deodatus (St. Dié) was a nobleman who became Bishop of Nevers and later renounced his episcopal dignity to embrace a life of prayer, solitude, and penance. Drawn to the desert spirit of the early saints, he withdrew from the world and founded the monastery of Jointures under the Rule of Saint Columban.
